Sketch Diary: Inktober Day 3 Roasted - cute demons around a campfire
Aren't they just the cutest! I think this turned out considerably better than I thought it would. I was really expecting it to go sour, especially when I started doing the background. But I managed to pull it together in the end, I think. And isn't the pop of red fun! Idk why I did that. I just have all this colored inks and I wanted to make use of them. I maybe shouldn't have done the moon and stars in red... oh well. Still like it.

Sketch Diary: Inktober Day 2 - Tranquil - mermaids relaxing on a beach
Surprise! I did some more mermaids for Inktober. When you're trying to work quickly and under a tight timeline, it's much less stressful to go with things that feel good or come easily to you. For me, it's definitely mermaids and female bodies lol. I have mixed feelings about this drawing, though, cuz while I like the mermaid on the right, the one on the left feels so wonky to me (especially the hair and tail). But her hands came out well so there's that. Also, hey look at me! I drew a background! Time to party!

Sketch Diary: Curvy gestures
Cramming as many gestures as possible onto a single page is so satisfying. Then plucking one pose that felt like it had some potential and expanding on it in a longer drawing, I can't recommend the process enough. You get all nice and warmed up doing the 10-15 mins of poses and then spend like 30-45 mins enjoying your fav pose from the set.

Sketch Diary: The wine mermaid ink
I forget if there was a real reason as to why she's sitting in a goblet/glass thing. I think I just liked the idea of a mermaid in a bath or something but then I wanted it to be see through and as I sketched it out, it started to look like a wine glass... so here we are. My made up lore is as follows: don't leave your wine glass sitting out or else the wine mermaid will take a bath in your glass! Presumably, the lore is to encourage people to not waste wine. Or maybe to keep children from getting a hold of wine and making a mess? I don't know man, I just work here.

Sketch Diary: Soft and smooth lines - Ink portrait
I enjoyed the original sketch of this but the ink process was more tedious. Not sure why. I think it was... too simple? So it was actually challenging to keep the lines smooth and uncomplicated. I like the result well enough. Again... should have waited so I could ink this for Inktober!!! What a fool I am.

Sketch Diary: Hangin' around - aerial acrobatics
This was hella fun to draw. Lighting on the reference image was great, had so many great little shapes going on. I goofed up a bit on the head and the feet. Still love it. Aerial acrobatics is amazing. I would never do it myself but will always watch other people in awe while they perform.

Sketch Diary: Yoga standing leg stretch
I used Quickposes.com to give me a random reference image to use and I feel like I got really lucky with this one. I mean look at it, profile, no weird angles/perspectives. Super lucky hah. Anyway, I like how the sketch turned out. The shoes don't look quite... real? I clearly don't spent alot of time drawing shoes.

Sketch Diary: Another gesture dump (plus video)
Gotta keep practicing those S, C, I lines. I'm still a bit stiff in these gestures. I like the pose on the left, middle. It looks fairly natural. 10 gestures down, a million to go hahah. Your turn now - Quickposes.com.

Sketch Diary: A dancer (face experiment)
I wasn't intending to finish this practice. Initially, I just wanted to practice a style of doing facial features I had seen somewhere. But one thing led to another and here we are. It feel stiff, head too big and hands/arms too small but I still like it enough. Not every sketch needs to be awesome.

Sketch Diary: Curly haired climber girl
Just an ink practice of a sketch in my mini sketchbook. I don't know what I was thinking with the hair. It looks like... idk but it's weird and I'm not a fan. But that's what sketchbooks are for - messing around, making mistakes. This is why I've been working with more references lately. I'm just tired of getting things wrong lol.

Sketch Diary: Speed faces in 60 seconds or less
10 faces, 60 seconds, GO. Again, I used Quickpose for this practice page. Highly recommended. Not just that website, but also the entire practice of fast gesture drawing. Do iiiiiit.
