Sketch Diary: Sitting on a ledge in color

Played with colors here. I like the skin. Fabric looks ok from a distance but I didn't get the smoothness like I wanted. Hair just fell flat. I don't have many purples. This was on thin paper so I couldn't rework the colors or overlay much at all without ruining the paper. Ah well. Still fun.

Sketch Diary: Slender all over

I didn't realize until after finishing this little sketch that I was definitely channeling some Keane. Specifically, her slender looking women in some of her paintings. She's mostly known for her 'Big Eyes' paintings but I like her other work, too. She had a wild ride though, if the movie was at all accurate. I recommend watching it regardless because it brings up the issues of selling prints versus originals, the desire to be in an art gallery, and just all around artist struggles.

Sketch Diary: My Fair Lady warm up

Quick warm up before getting into a more serious sketch. It was super serious. You'll see it tomorrow. Be patient. I know, it's difficult. I believe in you. Don't give up. Stay strong. Bananas.

Sketch Diary: Mary from Reign

Just a quickie sketch of Mary, Queen of Scots, from the show Reign. She had this powerful look in this one shot, like she could see something in the distance that no one else could see. I'm interested in what else that actress will end up doing in the future - I think there's some serious potential there. And the costume designer for the show - love the stuff. I don't think any of it's very period true but I appreciate the ingenuity. I'm hoping to play with making some of the cool hair pieces, the beaded ones that Mary wears that lay flat like a headband/crown. Very pretty.

Happy Friday! Don't terrorize those retail associates too much, ok? I've been there - it means a lot when costumers practice a little patience with all the sale madness.
